New perceptions of interrelationship between pancreatic cancer and diabetes
نویسندگان
چکیده
Pancreatic cancer is strongly associated with diabetes mellitus. About 80% of the patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma have glycometabolic alterations. On the contrary, patients with new-onset diabetes mellitus within 1-3 years have a significant increased risk of pancreatic neoplasm up to 5-8 folds. Long-standing diabetes increases the risk for pancreatic cancer, while pancreatic cancer also provokes the development of diabetes mellitus. The pancreatic cancer-induced glucose tolerance impairment is supposed to be paraneoplastic. However, the pathogenesis of this phenomenon remains unclear, which might be the key to develop novel therapeutic strategies. New-onset diabetes may indicate subclinical pancreatic neoplasm and potential reliable biomarkers are still to be explored.

متن کاملسنجش سطح سرمی لیگاند القاکننده تکثیر (APRIL) بهعنوان تومورمارکر جهت تشخیص سرطان پانکراس
Background: Members of the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) superfamily of ligands and their receptors (TNFR) are critical regulators of the adaptive immune system. A proliferation inducing ligand (APRIL) is a member of tumor necrosis factor superfamily. APRIL was identified via database mining in 1998 by Hahne, et al. APRIL allows tumor cells to proliferate at a reasonable rate even in low serum. A...
متن کاملAssociation between alcohol consumption and pancreatic cancer: a systematic review of cohort studies
Background: Among all types of cancers, pancreatic cancer has poor prognosis with 5-year survival below 10%. In theory, alcohol intake may be a modifiable risk factor for pancreatic cancer due to its role in multiple carcinogenic and metabolic signaling pathways. In addition, alcohol consumption may lead to chronic pancreatitis which is underlying cause of pancreatic cancer. However, little is ...

The consequence of repeated blood transfusions in thalassemia is iron overload in different organs. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a reliable, non-invasive and accurate method for iron detection in various tissues, hence the introduction of MRI has revolutionized the management of these patients and improved the life expectancy of them. Cardiac MRI T2* has a profound effect not only on est...
